Rumen received his BS degree in Materials Science from St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University (LETI) in 1986, a PhD in Electronics from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1997, and an MSc in Hydrogen Safety Engineering from the University of Ulster in 2012. He joined the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge in 1999. His research interests focus on nano-engineered materials for energy generation and storage, solid-state electrochemical devices, and automated materials discovery.

Ghanshyam is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge, where he works on automated X-ray diffraction analysis workflows. He completed his PhD in the same department, working on polymer physics, machine learning-assisted polymer processing, and advanced materials characterisation, with a focus on recycled polymers and polymer-graphene nanocomposites. He previously worked as a visiting researcher and lecturer in Environmental Engineering at UCL, studying low-cost wastewater desalination. He holds an MRes in Graphene Technology from the Department of Engineering at Cambridge, an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems from UCL, and a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and Biomedicine from King’s College London.

Before coming to Cambridge, she completed her undergraduate degree at Seattle University and her master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Washington. Her work combines robotic automation, Bayesian optimization, and materials science to design experimental workflows and accelerate materials development, particularly in perovskite semiconductors.

Shuan is a graduate student working on machine learning, autonomous robotic systems, and control for materials testing. He grew up in China and completed his undergraduate studies at Technion, Israel. His research interests focus on developing autonomous systems for testing the life cycles of materials such as batteries and solar cells.

Outside the lab, Shuan enjoys traveling and playing sports, including tennis and badminton.
