Shijing is an Associate Professor in Materials Science and Co-director of Advanced Materials for Energy Transition MPhil Programme.

Rumen received his BS degree in Materials Science from St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University (LETI) in 1986, a PhD in Electronics from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1997, and an MSc in Hydrogen Safety Engineering from the University of Ulster in 2012. He joined the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge in 1999. His research interests focus on nano-engineered materials for energy generation and storage, solid-state electrochemical devices, and automated materials discovery.

Ghanshyam is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge, where he works on automated X-ray diffraction analysis workflows. He completed his PhD in the same department, working on polymer physics, machine learning-assisted polymer processing, and advanced materials characterisation, with a focus on recycled polymers and polymer-graphene nanocomposites. He previously worked as a visiting researcher and lecturer in Environmental Engineering at UCL, studying low-cost wastewater desalination. He holds an MRes in Graphene Technology from the Department of Engineering at Cambridge, an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems from UCL, and a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and Biomedicine from King’s College London.

Zuyang Ye is a postdoctoral researcher in Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on the autonomous synthesis of functional materials.

Clara is a PhD student in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. Before coming to Cambridge, she completed her undergraduate degree at Seattle University and her master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Washington. Her work combines robotic automation, Bayesian optimization, and materials science to design experimental workflows and accelerate materials development, particularly in perovskite semiconductors.

Hemanth is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. His research focuses on developing autonomous AI agents and collaborative robotic systems that accelerate materials discovery and synthesis.

Shuan is a graduate student working on machine learning, autonomous robotic systems, and control for materials testing. He grew up in China and completed his undergraduate studies at Technion, Israel. His research interests focus on developing autonomous systems for testing the life cycles of materials such as batteries and solar cells.

Outside the lab, Shuan enjoys traveling and playing sports, including tennis and badminton.

Weijie is an MPhil AMET student working on AI for perovskite materials discovery.

Zimeng is an MPhil AMET student in the group, working on solution-processed perovskite intergrowth structures with a focus on their synthesis and structural characterisation.

Chloris is an undergraduate Engineering student and is currently a summer intern. Her project this summer involves automating the process of image capture and analysis of exfoliated 2D flakes.

James is a summer intern with Dr Matthew Evans in the Grey Group. His project is on automated synthesis of a MOF.

Julia is an undergraduate Computer Science student at the University of Cambridge, working on automating mechanical exfoliation of MoS2 as her summer UROP project.

Stefan is a gap year student gaining research experience in the lab, primarily in robotics. He writes code for robotic arm control, implements reinforcement learning workflows, and creates 3D equipment renders.
