Shijing Sun has recently shared exciting lectures on how machine learning is transforming the way we think about energy and materials:
Smarter Batteries: Showing how data-driven methods can predict when a battery might fail and help extend its lifespan. This has big implications for energy storage and electric vehicles.
Closed-Loop Optimization: Demonstrating how AI can accelerate discovery and innovation by guiding the design of experiments. Applications range from materials discovery and engineering optimization to improving battery charging protocols.

Congratulations to Shijing for receiving the Multidisciplinary Team Grant! This grant supports UW materials research teams in areas that complement MEM-C’s current focus.
Dr. Sun, alongside Prof. Kevin Jamieson (CSE), will lead AI Core efforts for MEM-C. Collaborating with Prof. Dianne Xiao (IRG-1), they aim to develop an AI agent for energy-efficient inorganic synthesis.
